Rolfing Boston is a blog dedicated to the teaching of Ida Rolf; Boston Rolf follows it's principles.
Rolfing Boston, a quest for roots.
Jessica was looking for Rolfing in Boston, and after experiencing the work of several structural integrators, she finally chose to complete the Ten Session Rolf Protocol at Boston Rolf with Joel Gheiler, a Guild Certified Rolf Practitioner.
Rolfing is a term trademarked by the Rolf Institute and used to describe Dr. Rolf's unique work (1). However, after the passing of Ida Rolf, a handful of first generation Rolfing teachers felt that her original teachings were being changed. They broke away from the institute and formed their own school, called "The Guild";to preserve the spirit and heart of Dr. Ida Rolf's work (2).
Currently, both schools operate in Boulder, Colorado. Rolf Institute graduates and registrants are allowed to use the trademarked term "Rolfing" while Guild graduates use the term "Rolf Practitioners."
Rolf from the heart.
Division can be found everywhere, for mother nature constantly seeks to support diversity within it's limited container (3). Today, Dr. Ida Rolf's work is globally termed "Structural Integration", with Rolfing being a subset of it (4). Still, old habits persist, and "Rolfing" is used interchangeably with "Structural Integration." But should one pay much attention to such labels? I think not.
As a seasoned Rolf practitioner, I've had the honor to receive Structural Integration work from dozens of different practitioners, both from Rolfers (Rolfing practitioners) and from Rolf practitioners. Each practitioner is completely different in his approach, for each practitioner is a different human being, who perceives and delivers a different kinesthetic experience. When a practitioner becomes at ease with the natural workings of the human body, they rolf from the heart; skill and experience come together organically and the results are profound.
So when you are searching for Rolfing Boston, keep in mind that the work comes first from the heart; all you need to do is close your eyes and trust your body, all the information is there.
